GENERAL INFORMATION

The Biology Department was established in 1982 in the Faculty of Arts and Sciy6ences, offering B.Sc as well as M.Sc and Ph.D degrees, hiring sufficient number of faculty members and establishment of research laboratories and teaching laboratories. Today, there are 2 professors, 4 associate professors, 12 assistant professors, 2 post doctoral research associates, and 10 research assistants in the Department and they are involved in research programmes in genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, microbiology, botany and zoology. Researches are supported by DPT, TUBITAK and University Research Fund. Some of the equipment in the Lab are UV absorbance spectrophotometre, electrophoreis, PCR, Gel Imaging analyse, incubater shaker. 40 students are accepted to Biology Program each year. The number of M.Sc. and PhD students in the department are around 50.
